'Africa & Byzantium' private view and cocktail reception
Join us on Tuesday, February 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for an exclusive Private Viewing of Africa & Byzantium, as this impressive exhibition comes to a close. See the exceptional loans from St Catherine’s Monastery, icons and a manuscript never before allowed to travel, among them Icon with the Virgin and Child, Saints, Angels, and the Hand of God and Icon with the Virgin Hodegetria Dexiokratousa.
View these precious works in the company of members of the monastery, directors and patrons of the American Associates of the Saint Catherine Foundation, and key figures from the Metropolitan Museum including Dr C. Griffith Mann, Michel David-Weill Curator in Charge - Department of Medieval Art and The Cloisters, and the lead curator, Dr Andrea Achi
PhD, Mary and Michael Jaharis Associate Curator of Byzantine Art.
Gather with us afterwards at the cocktail reception to follow in the Petrie European Sculpture Court. Your presence will be an affirmation of support for the monastery and the foundation’s preservation work there. We look forward to an evening of inspiring conversation and encounters. We do hope you will come.
